Awaken Cafe presents...
Snap Judgment Live band leader & composer, Pixar Brave songwriter ("Touch the Sky"), composer for East Side Sushi, and singer-songwriter for The Echo Falls, now Alex Mandel celebrates the release of his first solo album As Long As We Breathe. The album showcases Mandel's promiscuous musical tastes -- from a Gaelic tinged duet with Julie Fowlis (Brave), to West African, Reggae flavors, and flat out rock -- to bring to life an emotional journey from joy, rage, despair, to something like hope.
A week after performing at the Paramount Theater with Snap Live, Mandel has curated a special intimate evening. Stories from Snap Judgment's Glynn Washington, Josh Healey and Jamie DeWolf will interspersed among songs from the new album. Mandel will be accompanied by Dave Brandt and Tim Frick (Snap Live Band), and special guest Scott Ayers of The Lovemakers. The CD features a full color lyrics poster, and there will be a limited edition silk screen poster by artist Jason Munn available exclusively at the show.
Glynn Washington is host of NPR's Snap Judgment, broadcast on over 360 NPR stations nationwide, downloaded over three million times a month, with a traveling live stage show, and series of television specials, the Atlantic Magazine calls Washington, "the first African American host to swing a big cultural stick, the first who seems likely to become a public-radio superstar on the order of [Ira] Glass or Garrison Keillor." The traveling Snap Judgment LIVE Stageshow continues to electrify audiences nationwide, routinely sparking viral content.
Jamie DeWolf is a performer, filmmaker, teaching artists and vaudevillian showman from Oakland. He is a regular contributor to NPR's Snap Judgment, host of Tourette's Without Regrets, and host of Awaken Cafe's Story Showdowns.
Hassan El-Tayyab is the lead singer-songwriter of American Nomad, and author of his upcoming memoir, "Composing Temple Sunrise."
